Shelving is another important consideration in retail design. You should place the best selling products and the products that have the best profit margins at eye level.
Sometimes companies will give you special deals on products if you place them in a certain location. You should also line up your products largest to smallest left to right, when there is more than one size of a product. This is because people naturally look from left to right.
By putting your larger products on the left you are more likely to have customers grab the larger size, which makes you more sales. Vacant space should be reduced as it uses up valuable space in your business and does not look good.
The space between shelves should just be a little more than is required for hands to take the product of the shelves. You should also ensure that your shelves are well stocked. If you have plenty of stock on hand you create confidence in the product and create more of a visual impact.

Shelving and how products are placed on shelving is an important consideration of retail design. It is recommended to put your best selling and most costly items at eye level.
For some of the products, you will receive special incentives from the product companies when you placed their products in certain shelves. You should also line up your products largest to smallest left to right, when there is more than one size of a product. This is due to the fact that people’s eyes naturally go to the left first since we read left to right.
By putting your larger products on the left you are more possible to have customers grab the larger size, which makes you more money. Empty space should be reduced because it uses up precious space in your store and does not look good.
The space between your shelves should be just big enough to comfortably allow people to remove the products. You should always ensure that your shelves are well stocked as this creates an impression of abundance and you will also lose sales if your shelves are empty.

There are ways that you can improve the retail design of your store without having to spend a lot of money on refitting and redesigning the store. One of the best ways to make your retail design more attractive and appealing to customers is to have great visual displays in store as well as in the windows.
Your displays should be colorful, seasonally appropriate, interesting and use different props to make your point. Many manufacturers of the products you stock in your store will have merchandisers that will come to the store and do displays for you for free. Don’t be afraid to ask your reps to do this as it is in their interests to promote their products too.
